1.              University investigating death of UF freshman, no foul play suspected.

The main problem of this article is that police is investigating the death of a UF student that occurred outside the Trusler Hall on Wednesday morning. The police found Wesley Michael Spano, 19,dead inside a vehicle. He was a computer science freshman who start his undergrad fall semester 2015.His cumulative unweight grade point average in the high school was about 3.9.There is no official report about the detailed about the incident. In my opinion, these types of incidents are very sad and traumatic for the family members. It is unfair that someone that has all the opportunities to succeed in life it all ends up in one night .UF has to find out the main problem of the incident because and try to avoid something like that to happen again.

2.              Police say unnamed man flashed genitals on Sorority Row

Authorities are searching for a man who police say expose himself to a women in the Norman Parking Garage, two blocks from the campus. This is something disrespectful and the police has to find this guy. The main problem here is that there are some people that that think it is funny, so If they find him he has to be punished.

3.              Oil prices plunge and stocks hit lowest level since 2014

This is the link to the article http://www.gainesville.com/article/20160120/WIRE/160129986&tc=ix

There is another plunge in the price of crude oil sent stocks lower this past Wednesday, bringing the market to its lowest level nearly in two years. Energy companies were hit as the price of rude oil sank almost 7 percent. This is threatening more damage to an industry that has already been stricken with bankruptcies. There should be more control of the oil prices .For example, the government should intervene and try to control the prices so that the energy companies would not go to bankruptcy.

4.              Court sentences man for animal cruelty

Meldwige Gregoire, 25, adopted a 4 mount Pit bull mix from Alachua Country Animal services according to the police report. Gregoire stomped in the puppy’s back and leg. Then kicked the puppy in the back multiple times before dragging it down a hallway. Gragoire told he was punishing the puppy. Then, he returned the puppy to the shelter wrapped in towels and said the puppy dies in the crate. After the autopsy the investigators discovered the dog was killed. The solution to this is that Gragoire was to go to jail for animal cruelty and probation.

5.              Car, scooter crash outside Library West

This is the link to the article http://www.alligator.org/news/crime/article_c14b408e-b8f2-11e5-8729-4bc521c96c62.html

There were two accidents one outside Library West and the other on Stadium Road this last Monday. The first accident is that a UF student drove her scooter down in University Avenue and crashed into a turning car. The, two hours later a UF student rode his bicycle down in Stadium Road and another student crossing the road. A solution for this is that scooters and bicycle shouldn’t transit where cars transit. For scooters, it is very dangerous because cars are faster and bigger.

  1. I really enjoyed your articles and everything you had to say! Wow, I had no idea that Spano was found dead in his vehicle. That is so extremely sad. I can not imagine having a child that goes off to college to never return again. I really hope they do discover what occurred and his death to try to prevent any more like it. How upsetting.
After reading the article on the man who went to jail because of animal cruelty I was astonished! How devastating. I can not imagine a person in their right mind doing such a thing. The most astonishing part of it all is how he took it back to the shelter almost as if to brag, like here is what I did. I'm glad they were able to sentence him to jail. It's good for the public to see that you shouldn't treat animals so cruel unless of course you are defending yourself or someone else.

  2. Natalie, great articles! It was very intriguing and covered a wide variety of news here in Gainesville. The article on the death of one of our fellow gators was indeed saddening; however, the article was helpful in describing more about the situation. The article about the man flashing sorority girls was also informational and was rather shocking. I did not know that that situation had occurred, so I thank you for providing that news! Also thank you for providing more insight about the articles. Check out mu opportunities at: http://karinatamayo.blogspot.com/2016/01/identifying-local-opportunities.html

  3. Hi Natalie, your post is really interesting. The best part about reading your local opportunities is that the they came out of our very own student paper. It is really cool that you saw the different events going on around campus. I cant particularly say they were interesting because some were definitely tragedies however, these are things that as students we should be aware about. I invite you to read my blog you might really enjoy it!
